Chinese and foreign experts discuss and promote international cooperation to protect black land in Changchun

Changchun, July 22 (Xinhua) (Li Dan, Lv Shengnan) The third International Forum on the Protection and Utilization of Black Land and the ninth Pear Tree Black Land Forum opened in Changchun on July 22, with the theme of "Farmland Security and Grain Production Capacity Improvement". The attending Chinese and foreign experts and scholars exchanged ideas on the protection and utilization of black soil, promoting global food security, and promoting sustainable agricultural development.

Black soil is the "habitat" of agricultural organisms, the "buffer" of greenhouse gases, and the "granary" of the world's people. Over the years, affected by factors such as soil erosion, reuse and light nutrition, the global black soil has generally faced problems such as the deterioration of the arable structure, the decline of organic matter, and Soil acidification, which pose serious challenges to world food security and sustainable agricultural development.

Zhang Tao, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that at present, it is particularly important to carry out international cooperation in the field of black land and build a platform for international exchanges. The Chinese Academy of Sciences will unite with scientific research institutes of universities and colleges to focus scientific and technological research on the black land of three provinces and one district in northeast China, continue to carry out scientific and technological research, and create an agricultural model of black land protection and utilization and sustainable development that is usable, influential, open, and sustainable.

Jilin Province is located in the core area of the black land in Northeast China and is known as the "hometown of black land". The typical black soil area has 72 million mu of arable land, accounting for 64.02% of the total arable land area in the province.

Sun Qixin, the president of China Agricultural University, believes that China's agricultural production potential is huge, and Jilin, a major grain province, is one of the cornerstones. "Jilin has a good agricultural production foundation and strong scientific and technological strength, and has made contributions to national food security in both black land protection and comprehensive utilization of Alkali soil."

Sun Qixin stated that protecting black land is a great undertaking and a major global issue to ensure sustainable development. We need to collaborate with global scientists to protect black land and make greater contributions to global sustainable development. "China Agricultural University will continue to strengthen its efforts to carry out research in Pedology, environmental science, seed industry, agricultural machinery equipment, agricultural product processing and other fields with excellent research teams at home and abroad."

Chris Freeman, professor of the School of Biology of Bangor University and member of the Royal Society of Biology, also supports international cooperation to jointly promote the protection and use of black land. The forum provides us with an opportunity to address the challenges ahead. Only by exchanging ideas, exchanging research results, and collaborating with each other can we meet these challenges. As researchers, we need to develop more effective technologies, promote more sustainable production methods, and promote the rational utilization of resources

Michael Thompson, president of the American Soil Society and professor of Iowa State University, is currently conducting joint research on Pedology with Chinese scientific research institutes. He expressed the hope that through comparative research on black soil in the United States and China, better black soil protection technologies can be jointly developed.

Michael Thompson stated that China is a leading country in the field of black land conservation, and many countries in the world, especially the United States, need to learn from and learn from it.
